I watched Carmello Anthony and Syracuse win the national title tonight, and somehow it just doesn't feel right. Good team and all, especially since their stars are freshman, but I can't help thinking that a lot of those shots they made, which caused the announcers to laud their talent and poise, were somewhat fluky. Had they not gone in, it would have been examples of them "forcing it" and showing their inexperience. I guess that's the way announcers will always be. Most of all, I was hacked off by UT and KU's inability to make free throws. The games were called rather poorly to start with, seemingly in 'Cuse's favor both times, and neither Big 12 team made the little things go right for themselves by staying close with the gimmes. The games were fun to watch, though, so I can't complain too much, but it's always aggravating to see a champion win by survival, requiring let downs by their opponent, as opposed to stepping up and seizing the title (Warrick's block at the end tonight was huge, but it came after his blown free throws gave Kansas one last gasp of hope). The breaks, I suppose, always go the champion's way, and we can't fault them for that.
Speaking of champs, I froze like a doe in the headlights tonight when the girl I was hoping to see actually showed up at Spider House. I'm 22 damn years old and girls still middle school me all the time--you know, make me feel like I've got some growing to do before they'll take me seriously. Luckily, she's Kingore's friend, and Matts don't let other Matts stay celibate. She will be mine, oh yes . . .
