Love in the time of regime change

With American soldiers looking forward to months of reconstruction in Iraq, I wonder if we'll see many of them returning with Iraqi brides, strange as that may sound. I believe this is a common occurrence in almost all wars, and I imagine especially so when soldiers are there for peacekeeping more than fighting. The soldiers, and perhaps even the Americans contracted to rebuild Iraq, will temporarily become part of Iraqi society, picking up bits of the language, eventually mingling with young Iraqis while looking for entertainment. Add to the mix the exotic appeal of things unknown and the chance for an Iraqi girl to escape a devastated nation, and I believe these couplings could be possible. Of course, the vast religious differences between the populations mean that I can't predict anything, but the possibility of an influx of Iraqis into the U.S. intrigues me. I wonder if in ten years Iraqi food will be a popular sub-genre of Middle Eastern food, or if Iraqi-Americans will join other hyphenated Americans as influential and active members in our country. And will this demographic change lead to a change of opinion about the Middle East among the fast-food masses? Or will it simply give us another stereotype to add to the collection?
