Meta-Democracy

Exasperated Democrats are starting to take their name seriously. As of this post, 600+ people have signed an online petition to convince Gen. Wesley Clark to run in 2004. That's democracy at a whole new level--not choosing the best leader from the candidates, but choosing the best leader from among all those in the public eye and telling him he should run, whether he's interested in the job or not. I know as little about Clark as I do about any of the candidates, but from what I've seen on Grammar Police (Mr. Capps), which is where I picked up this thread, he sure looks like the answer to all the Dems' prayers. He's a moderate Democrat with around 37 years of military experience, so he'd hopefully stand up to the test of homeland and world security. He's much more interesting and viable a leader, it seems at this early stage, than any of the announced candidates. Now, we just need to convince him he's the man for the job. I can see it now: Wesley Clark & John Stewart in two-double-oh-fo'.
