El arte es la vida
Well, literally it is for my friend Jason. He just got his masters from the University of Colorado and is now trying to find a teaching position. He recently put his portfolio online. Check it out sometime. I like his paintings and his sketches myself, although I believe that betrays my general predilection to those mediums more than it comments on his talents.
When Jason came to town a few weeks ago, it was a short, pleasant trip. Even though he's four years my elder, Jason and I used to be real close back when I was in high school and we both lived in S.A. We kept in sparse touch over the following years, but I had a damn good time the couple meals I shared with him as he ventured through Austin on his way to and from Florida.
With so many friends about to leave or having already left, and with many more to do so over the next year, it's nice to know that whenever I see them again down the line, it'll just be pleasant—like our time apart was as inconsequential as an Austin summer day.

This is one of my older photos, at least three years old, maybe twice that. Either way, this embodied summer in San Antonio for me: my dad sunning himself like a lizard, absorbing the newspaper, with the grill smokin'.
