For Seth
John Edwards had some good things to say in the Washington Post today. Well, I didn't care much for his step-by-step sentiment on gay rights, which reminds me of the South during segregation saying, "We want integration, just not so fast." But he points out that Dems need to focus more on the positive possibilities of our presence in Iraq, and here I think he's dead on. He's right: most voters don't want to vote for someone who simply hates Bush. The base does, however, and that's why Howard Dean is doing so well right now. If Dean gets the nomination, he only has a chance if he proves himself more than just an anti-Bush. Clark, Gephardt, Kerry, et al. might do well for themselves if they concede the San Franciso liberal and the co-op liberal to Dean and aim at the rest of us — and that means doing more than just spitting poison at the White House. Actually, it means doing exactly what Edwards advocates. I'm with Seth, for the moment: I hope this guy gets some traction so we at least get a chance to see what he says.
