Good things

Was talking to Lilly earlier tonight, and she pointed out that I was taking a relatively pessimistic view of the weekend. She was right, and so, in a concerted effort to procrastinate further on my Bible as Lit. paper, I here recount the half-full weekend:

— While hungover on Friday, I caught up on this season's last two episodes of the O.C. The Vegas one easily ranked in the upper echelons of the Vegas-episode archetype. Then I found my eyes surprisingly misty during the season finale. The abortion twist with the mother actually bordered on subtlety and poignancy.

— I made a prety nice tip-in just before I sprained my ankle.

— Grady's party on Friday whooped ass (although I hear Saturday's was better). And we (me, Robert, Kevin, Lilly, and Amanda) did have a damn good time shooting the shit on the porch after the cops ran us out of Grady's place.

— I found a perfect set of binoculars for my mom at Academy.

— My Casino burger was top notch.

— I have to admit, Saturday evening on the whole went really well except for the end. And this was probably one of the hottest girls I've ever been on a date-like excursion with.

Do the Right Thing, for all its many flaws, ended up being quite a thought-provoking movie. For those who've seen it: Why do you think Spike Lee's character threw that trash can through the window?

— Sunday afternoon, Seemay fed me some really kick-ass homemade Chinese food and a fresh-baked apple pie. It was off the chain. Then I beat her at Puzzle Fighter. Hoo-RA!

— The Spurs can't possibly play any worse, and they were only two missed wide-open shots from making that a competitive game.

— Met up with my parents in San Marcos and got a table with no wait at Johnny Carino's for a real nice Mother's Day

Danny's dad was featured in San Antonio Express-News story after he earned three degrees over 16 years of weekend classes. My parents went to a family barbecue and told us that Mr. Abrego has already been contacted by several other papers for follow-up stories. Even better, my parents said he happily reported that several strangers have emailed him saying that his article inspired them to go back to school. What a cool little story.

— I rediscovered my friend's band Sound Team's CD in a stack on my desk. Good stuff.

— Lilly told me that some people at the Texan were talking about me and Nicole, and I have to confess: I like it when people gossip about me.

— I can walk without pain on my ankle, even if it is still very inflexible.

— My friend Chad posted his first attempt at a remix, and I find it quite entertaining. Go check it out.

— And finally, I managed to ignore politics all weekend. If you follow that stuff as closely as I did this last semester, it can really wear you down. At every level, from international relations to the fucked up way the state lege is trying to mask property tax cuts in the gauze of reorganizing school financing, things always seem more broken than fixed. But this weekend, my thoughts never extended beyond where my next beer would come from.
