The economist in me

I decided. I'm moving back to San Antonio. There are simply too many opportunity costs at stake to sign a lease in Austin.

Even though Danny and I found a great apartment today (a 2-2 just south of Barton Skyway; balcony overlooking the Green Belt; fireplace; washer/dryer connections; breakfast nook; swimming pool, weight room, and full-court basketball on the property; $849/mo.), the seven-month lease would mean that I couldn't take any of the jobs I've applied for, if they came calling, or be open to any that might open up in the immediate future.

Even typing that last sentence, I waivered for just a second thinking of how much I liked that place. But really, what am I going to do in Austin? Sub in a high school? Work at a law firm? Go back to NCS Pearson? I would basically be committing to seven months of making no real progress in anything that could possibly turn into a future career.

Opportunity costs. In the end, weighing them formed the hard pit of the decision, after I stripped away all the other, less-consequential considerations. Plus, this gives me a short respite from bills, rent, and other living expenses, so I can start to save some money for when I do need to move.

I'll be looking for jobs in Austin, too, so if you local folks hear of anything, please let me know. Also, if anyone wants to come visit me in S.A., you know I know where the tacos are at. It kind of pains me to type this post. I'm sure I'll be up in Austin a good deal on the weekends, so who's up for drinks?
