Tomorrow's the day
These are the jobs I will be applying for tomorrow, in no particular order:
1. The Sheridan (Wyo.) Press, a six-day-a-week afternoon daily, is looking for a reporter who seeks a challenge. Beats include covering communities and government of Sheridan County, the coal-bed methane industry and related topics, politics on the local and state levels, and sports at three county high schools. Photography skills a plus.
2. The Killeen Daily Herald ... has an immediate opening for a regional reporter to cover the fastest growing portion of our readership area. The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in municipal government issues with the ability to find the stories that really matter to taxpayers.
3. Go West! Work and play in Montana's big sky country! Enjoy world-class big game hunting, bird hunting, and walleye fishing as well as water skiing and abundant outdoor activities on the highline of Montana. The Glasgow Courier, an award-winning weekly newspaper, seeks a creative, ambitious, aggressive, articulate writer/photographer. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing, photography, and page layout and design skills. Working knowledge of digital cameras a must.
4. The Hill newspaper (D.C.) has an immediate opening for an entry-level reporter covering political races.
5. The Post-Star in Glens Falls, NY, is looking for a hybrid editor who can sharpen copy and design pages for our 34,500 circulation paper. The position breaks down like this: Three days a week, you would be working with reporters and the city desk to move late stories through to the copy editors. Two days a week, you would create pages, write headlines and other duties as assigned.
6. The Des Moines Register seeks a skilled copy editor to join its community publications copy desk.
7. The Spencer New Leaderv (Mass.), a six-town weekly newspaper, seeks a full-time reporter. Responsibilities include writing eight to 10 news/feature stories per week, attending municipal meetings and taking photographs as needed.
Any tips, suggestions, warnings, etc. would be appreciated, as would any leads on jobs in Austin or apartments that lease by the month or on 3-month contracts.
