Today was kind of a rough. I locked my keys in my car. I wrote a creme brulee of a puff piece. I transcribed a lot of obituaries. I have to get up and go to church in the morning (for a story). I had planned to write something rather long and involved, but it's just not coming...
Every so often, a nebulous idea begins to bounce around in my head. I can tell it's going to be ... heavy, I guess, in the sense of "hard to lift," so I always put off writing it down. Sometimes days or weeks go by while I wait for the trigger — a personal encounter, an article, a lot of beer — that allows me to get it out there. I thought I had it tonight, but I guess not.
Maybe tomorrow.
There was good news: I think I've found a Mexican restaurant near work that's up to my standards. For dinner tonight I had a solid bowl of caldo de pollo that only cost $4.50. That's my kind of Mexican.
My roommate's in Austin tonight, so I'm gonna go crash in her bed. Hope you don't mind, Lilly.
UPDATE: Lilly showed up at 4:00 in the morning to kick me out of her bed. I was in a total stupor when she woke me up, so why she chose to drive back from Austin in the middle of the night was beyond me. I think she was out to thwart the best night of sleep I've had in Temple as revenge for my come-from-behind Scrabble triumph.
