And then there was Tuesday
Hard to believe that people are saying things about this election like, "We'll see what happens on Tuesday." It just feels unreal that it will finally be here five, four, three, two, one days.
Remember four years ago when one vote never seemed so powerful — or perhaps so trivial?
Remember three years ago when the country was terrified and shell-shocked and nous sommes tous Americains?
Remember two years ago when Bush seemed absolutely unbeatable?
Remember 18 months ago when the mission was accomplished?
Remember one year ago when Dean was unbreakable?
Remember six months ago when Abu Ghraib potentially set us back decades?
Remember six weeks ago when it looked like Vietnam was going to decide this election?
Remember two weeks ago when Afghanistan held its first election?
Remember one week ago when the Iraqi interim government introduced us to al Qaqaa?
Come Wednesday, the event will have seemed to fly by us in a wave of anti-climax. And it seems strange, but I'm already looking ahead to — and conducting interviews for — the stories that comes afterward, writing headlines that don't exist yet.
Boy do I need to go to bed.
