E-fucking-nough
I've had it. I can't take this shit anymore.
I cannot believe there are people who are still voting for George W. Bush.
For the last two years I've played the role of the great non-partisan. Mr. Objective. Rational, calculating, a perfect journalist, all that. But this, this I just can't fucking stomach anymore.
Two debates, two times the president has got his ass handed to him. I'm sick of all these people talking about spin and shit, saying, "Well, the president didn't sound like a stuttering dolt, and Kerry missed an opportunity or two to hit some homeruns, so let's just call it even-stevens.
No. Fuck no. A thousand fucking times no.
Fuck spin, fuck partisans, fuck pundits, fuck people who vote with their emotions, fuck Fox News, fuck Kathleen whatever her name is, fuck lies, fuck distortions, fuck platitudes, fuck attack politics, fuck terror politics, fuck getting a beer with your president, fuck never admitting you're wrong, fuck you, George Bush.
What we saw tonight, again, was one man trying to spell out a vision for the country, one man trying to grapple with the innumerous difficult issues of running the most powerful nation in the world, one man who said this is where I think the country should go — and another man who could only retort by talking childish shit about his opponent.
So what if he said it without tripping over his own tongue? It's still just an attack. It still has absolutely no goddamn substance. It's still not a defense of an Iraq policy that turned bin Laden into bin Ladenism; it doesn't explain a huge, retarded tax cut that generated about a tenth of the jobs you promised; it still fails to give any justification for any goddamn policy in the last four years.
Turn off your heart. Go back and listen to that debate. Think about it. What did the Bush actually say?
Attacking Kerry doesn't count. Attacking Kerry doesn't make you a good fucking leader.
This is what it boils down to: The president didn't say anything.
Talking in ideals is not a fucking plan. Talking about what you believe doesn't fucking justify the failed policies you've enacted. Freedom is on the march? Freedom is on the fucking march doesn't actually mean shit. Talk, talk, talk, and Bush didn't say a goddamn thing.
And yet I spent the evening conversing with a man whom I just met, who seemed a reasonably intelligent person, and we discussed all the issues from the debate and more, and somehow, some fucking way, he nodded his head and said he is going to vote for Bush. Why? Because to switch leaders in mid-stream could be disastrous.
Lead on, brave Fear! Triumph, valiant Ignorance! Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war!
