Death comes for the arachnid

death comes for the arachnid, originally uploaded by Mr. Wright.

This tiny little guy with the giant pinchers came crawling up next to me while I was at a coffee shop working on a story about quadruplets. As he made his way around the edge of a windowsill, I started chasing him with my camera, trying to get him in my focal range.

Suddenly, he turned on me, his front two Popeye arms moving up and down, menancing like a Godzilla monster.

I took this picture. I tried to move closer to take another. He walked right up the edge of the windowsill and stared down the great glass eyeball in front of him with as many of his own as he could manage.

And then he leapt. The girl joining me at the table gasped, "He jumped!". I thought he was engaging in mortal battle with the lense of my camera.

Alas, no, he was holding on for dear life to the bottom of my Optio as I reflexively set it on the windowsill.

We found his smooshed body smeared on the stucco when I picked up the camera to turn it off, another casualty of the art world.
