What a waste
Goddamnit, I was about to go to bed at a reasonable hour, and then, as I was wrapping up AIM conversations, I stumbled upon the suggestion, which I eventually traced to its source, Ben Stein, that Deep Throat, a.k.a. Mark Felt, is responsible for fucking Pol Pot:
WHAT??? POL POT!!! GENOCIDE?!?!?
Oh, I'm so pissed I wasted hours of my life poking around looking at this shit to see how far it haS spread. Arg, that's it, no more politics, no fucking more! Anyone who follows this depressing study in corruption and absurdity and fucking bullshit every damn day is made of stronger stuff than me.
UPDATE: Ah, the world returns to some measure of tolerability, thanks to The Daily Show:
That is (Nixon's) legacy. He was a peacemaker. He was a lying, conniving, covering up peacemaker. He was not a lying, conniving drug addict like JFK, a lying, conniving war starter like LBJ, a lying, conniving seducer like Clinton -- a lying, conniving peacemaker. ...Ben fucking Stein, former gameshow host (and Nixon devotee), just hinted that Mark Felt and the rest of the Watergate-exposing crew will face eternity in Hell because they helped bring down an obviously corrupt president? What?
So, this is the great boast of the enemies of Richard Nixon, including Mark Felt: they made the conditions necessary for the Cambodian genocide. If there is such a thing as kharma, if there is such a thing as justice in this life of the next, Mark Felt has bought himself the worst future of any man on this earth. And Bob Woodward is right behind him, with Ben Bradlee bringing up the rear. Out of their smug arrogance and contempt, they hatched the worst nightmare imaginable: genocide. I hope they are happy now -- because their future looks pretty bleak to me.

Stewart: So the truth is, in your mind, the truth is the media couldn't break Watergate today?
Colbert: That's right, John. It just no longer has the credibility.
Stewart: The media?
Colbert: No, the truth.
