Everything hits at once

To answer Amy's question below: yep, I am moving back to Austin next month. I haven't blogged about my new place, great as it is, because I've been distracted the confluence of shitstorms tainting the world these days.

There's the follow-ups to the London bombings and the whole sweeping melodrama of the Plame fiasco, which are actually kinda-sorta related, depressingly.

Then there's the Schmidt report. It doesn't matter how well our prisoners are treated on average, or that these degrading techniques were technically legal. Some things simply should not be done to other human beings, no matter how terrible those people might be. And in many cases we, Americans, our soldiers, not only did them with the approval of our highest "leaders," they were institutionalized practices.

I can't write anything upbeat once I start thinking about all this.
