Recently the NCAA, in a minor hubbub, banned the use of Native American mascot names, saying it was "about doing the right thing."
Whatever the merits of that debate, I think I found one past nickname that trumps them all, although it may not have the weight of a racial slur behind.
Found, today, while searching microfilm of Telegram issues from 1926: the Palestine Pals (Palestine, Tx., that is) lost in the deciding game of a playoff series to the fearsome Longview Cannibals.
UPDATE: I can't believe no one called me on the slut/slur typo. I guess no one does actally read this blog.
