I don't normally do this, but...
Hey, so how about that Miers, huh?
When I first read about it, I figured I didn't know who she was or why the hell she'd been nominated because I don't follow these things much further than NPR's top-o'-the'hour news summaries. Turns out, everyone is a bit confused — except for the wingnuts, who are a pretty peeved.
At first, I was initially attracted to the "sacrifice metal" theory, but now I'm wondering if Publius over at Legal Fiction is on to something: "I think the theme that may emerge from Bush's nominees is deference to executive authority in the war on terror or whatever we call it these days. FDR picked Justices with pretty much one issue on his mind - deference to the New Deal. Bush seems to be doing something similar in the realm of executive authority and terrorism."
Now that makes a little more sense, I guess. Eh, whatever. Time for a free dinner.
