Belated props

Been meaning to congratulate several people close to me for some great accomplishments in the last couple weeks.

kriston whaaaaFirst, in bloggy news, as I'm sure almost all of you know, my good friend Kriston Capps is now the official writer of Eye Level, the new blog of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. I'm still fondly reflecting that a man who was once thrown into a prolonged rage due to a discussion of Harry Potter books, none of which he'd read at the time, is now a paid critic. Goddamn, we're proud of ya. As a side note, Capps should be aware that I plan on riding this connection to the height of the avant-garde New York art scene, with, uh, pictures of my girlfriend, I guess.

lilly and amanda getting downSecond, in more D.C. news, adding to her ever-expanding, ever-interning resume, Lilly was awarded the spring internship at the Washington bureau of Cox News, owners of papers such as the Austin American-Statesman, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the powerhouse Lufkin Daily News. You may remember Lilly from such critical moments in my career as "You should at least do some copy editing at the Texan, Matt," and "Well, there is an opening here at the Telegram, not that you'd want it." She was also offered that job I applied for with the Washington Post, but turned it down to take the D.C. gig. Oh, by the way, part of her stipend is a complimentar apartment ... in Dupont Circle.

thundersticks!Third, Grady has recovered from what we'll call a slow start to his college career and been admitted to a prestigious engineering program. Unfortunately, it's in College Station. Thanks to some weird tics of the UT bureaucracy and poor advising, Grady's chances of staying in Austin were more than slim. But, prairie shit, Aggieland is a scant 90 minutes from Austin, which is much better than returning to Lubbock.

To everyone: Congrats!
